Design It Yourself · The Artisan Collection

You design it. Our artisans weave it.

Choose the shape, the weave, the colours — and watch skilled hands turn your idea into a one-of-a-kind handwoven keepsake.

Your piece, as you build it

Custom handwoven gift boxes, woven your way

Every piece in The Artisan Collection begins as loose cord and thread — jute, cotton and shimmering zari — woven entirely by hand into boxes, trays and baskets. Now, for the first time, you hold the designer's seat.

With Design It Yourself, you decide everything: the shape of the piece, the pattern of the weave, the colours of every thread, right down to the brass corners and the handle. Our artisans then weave your custom design exactly as you imagined it — one piece, made once, for you.

No two DIY pieces are ever the same. Yours won't be either.

From loose cord to keepsake

Four stages, every one of them done by hand in the weavers' own courtyards.

  1. Balls of hand-dyed jute and cotton cord in many colours01

    The colours are wound

Jute, cotton and zari are dyed and wound into balls. The shades you pick in the builder start life here.

  2. White cord strung across a hand-built weaving frame02

    The warp is set

Cord is measured and strung across a hand-built frame — the skeleton your pattern will be woven into.

  3. An artisan weaving a patterned panel over a wooden frame03

    The pattern grows

Row by row, the weaver carries your chevron, diamond or checkerboard across the panel from memory.

  4. Finished handwoven pieces in purple, ochre, green and teal04

    Yours, finished

Shaped, rimmed, fitted with corners or a handle, and checked by the hands that made it.

How it works

Six steps from an idea to a piece woven for you alone.

Handmade by artisans

Behind every DIY piece is a weaver whose hands know the craft better than any machine ever will. Cord is measured, twisted and woven over a hand-built frame; patterns emerge row by row; brass corners are fitted one tap at a time.

When you design a piece, you're not just ordering a product — you're commissioning a craftsperson. Each order supports traditional weaving communities and keeps a slow, beautiful skill alive.

Because every piece is woven by hand, small variations in weave and shade are natural. That's not a flaw — it's the signature of the hands that made it.

Design It Yourself · questions

What is possible, what it costs in time, and how close we can get to your colours.

What is Design It Yourself?

It is a made-to-order service in The Artisan Collection. You choose the piece, its shape and size, the material, the weave pattern, the thread colours and the finishing touches, and our weavers handcraft that exact piece for you.

What is the minimum order for a DIY piece?

Five pieces of the same design. Because each piece is woven by hand, smaller runs are not viable, but five is enough for a family function or a trial order.

How long does a handwoven DIY order take?

Allow 2–3 weeks from design approval for most pieces, and longer for large baskets or big quantities. We confirm the exact date with your quote.

Can you weave in our brand or wedding colours?

Yes. Pick the nearest shades in the builder and mention your exact colour references — a Pantone code, a hex code or a photograph — in the notes. We match them as closely as hand-dyed cord allows and send a photograph of the weave sample before the full run.

Will every piece look identical?

Almost, but not exactly. Handwoven pieces carry small variations in weave tension and shade. That is the signature of the hands that made it, not a defect.

Can we add initials or a name?

Yes. Add a name tag with initials in the finishing touches step and tell us the names in the notes.

Not sure where to start?

Send us a photograph of a piece you like, or the colours of your event, and we will design the first version for you.
